Straight answers
Do you sell electricity?
No. We are not a retail electric provider. We find the best plan for you and handle the enrollment with that provider for you. Your power, your bill and your account stay with them.
Can everyone in Texas switch?
No. The 2002 deregulation was mandatory for the big investor-owned utilities, Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas and TNMP, and those customers do get to choose their provider. Electric cooperatives and city-owned utilities were left to decide for themselves and nearly all of them stayed out, so their customers cannot switch at any price. That is roughly one Texan in seven, including members of co-ops such as CoServ, Bluebonnet and Pedernales and customers of city utilities such as Austin Energy, CPS Energy, Denton Municipal Electric and Garland Power and Light. Nueces Electric Cooperative is the one that opted in. If your bill comes from a co-op or a city, the calculator says so instead of quoting you a saving you cannot actually get.
Do I sign a contract?
No. The membership is month to month and you can cancel anytime. The electricity plan you choose may have its own term and early termination fee, and we show you both before we enroll you.
How does the referral free month work?
Send someone our way and have them put your name in the "Referred by" box when they sign up. Once they are a member, we credit you a free month. There is nothing to claim and no code to remember, we apply it to your next bill.
What happens at renewal?
We re-shop you. Before your plan's term ends we run the market again and send you the best options, so you never roll onto a default rate.
Where does the plan data come from?
Our team works with multiple electric companies and partners to find the best deals available, and we re-check them throughout the day.
What if I am already on a good rate?
We will tell you. The calculator compares the best plan to your own bill, and if we cannot beat what you have, it says so. We would only charge you if we can beat it.
